Quail Watch: Live from Mrs. Kocher’s Class!

Watch Them Hatch Here!

Seventh grade is embarking on an exciting hands-on project as part of their science unit—incubating and hatching a variety of baby quails! Students are learning about the fascinating process of how the blood supply transfers from the egg to the developing embryo inside. It's been an incredible experience watching the eggs thrive in our classroom environment.

Once the quails hatch, they will stay in the classroom for about two weeks, giving students the unique opportunity to hold, pet, and observe their rapid growth from tiny hatchlings to feathered birds. When the quails are ready to move out of their brooder (around 2-3 weeks), they will be transported to a 10-acre land preserve near the Galesburg Speedway.

Mrs. Kocher’s family member has generously offered a 12x15 enclosure in a heated pole barn where the young quails will continue to grow until they are ready for the wild. When the time comes, Mrs. Kocher will capture the special moment on video as the quails are released into their forever home, where they can spread their wings and thrive as beautiful birds.

Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible journey!
