Covid-19 Update 10/30/20 Yesterday evening we confirmed that a HS student tested positive for Covid-19. We have completed our contact tracing and all individuals have been placed in quarantine. Unfortunately, it does mean that both our JV and Varsity volleyball teams will not be able to complete their season as they were exposed to the positive individual. We need to stress how important it is, that parents ask their students each day whether they have any symptoms at all and if so, please keep them home. Even if you and your student think it's allergies or "just a head cold." The virus is spreading significantly in the community and we need to be vigilant. You can read the full statement here: https://5il.co/mndd Total COVID-19 positive cases per building, staff, students and the district totals are now available on our website under “COVID-19 Dashboard.”

Covid-19 Update 10/26/20 Today, the GACS District learned of a kindergarten student who has tested positive for COVID-19. The student is part of the Gold Cohort and was in attendance last week, therefore, we do need to put several staff and the Gold Cohort group in quarantine. All individuals (adults and students’ families) have been notified of their quarantine. Because the teacher will be quarantined and it is very difficult to get guest teacher coverage, the Cardinal Cohort from the impacted classroom will learn virtually this week and next week. All students from the quarantined classroom can return as normal the week of November 9, 2020. Read the full statement here: https://5il.co/mhi5 Total COVID-19 positive cases per building and the district totals are now available on our website: http://galesburgaugustami.apptegy.us/o/gacs/page/covid-19-dashboard--13

RECESS NOTIFICATION Please note that the ENTIRE middle school, grades 4-7, will participate in OUTSIDE recess this year. In consideration of health department guidelines and district safety protocols, the previous years’ options (like inside gym time, board games, cards, reading time, etc.) are being placed on hold for the time being. All students will be required to go outside for recess time. We have brand new playground equipment and several other outdoor activity options. This is a great opportunity for students to get outside, remove their masks, get some fresh air, and exert some energy. Outside recess will only be cancelled if inclement weather ensues. IMPORTANT: Students should come to school dressed in clothing appropriate to the weather conditions. Winter coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc. are important in keeping students warm and healthy.

A GENTLE REMINDER: Student Drop off and Pick up at the Middle School The middle school is experiencing some difficulty with traffic blocking the entry and exit of school buses. If you drop off and/or pick up your student at the middle school, please follow these procedures: • Drop off / pick up at the front of the building • Follow all one-way signage • If all spaces in the front loading / unloading zone (parallel with the front sidewalk) are full, PLEASE PARK IN THE LOT. After parking in the lot, you can: o Get out of your vehicle to escort your student to or from the front entry area (for safety purposes, DO NOT allow your student to walk, unescorted, through the parking lot) OR o Wait for a spot to be vacated in the loading / unloading zone and move your vehicle to the open spot for drop off / pick up • It is imperative that no vehicles line up outside of the designated loading / unloading zone. If vehicles line up at the perimeter of the parking lot and in the driveway leading to the back parking lot, this impedes or blocks bus traffic. THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THESE GUIDELINES AND ENSURING THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN
